Niantic’s older brick homes and fireplaces demand more than a basic chimney sweep. A ‘licensed & insured’ crew isn’t just a checkbox, it’s proof they handle cracked masonry, creosote buildup, and liner issues safely. Eduardo Chimney Co. carries full coverage, specializes in historic brickwork, and offers free estimates. Here’s what to confirm before booking, and why some ‘licensed’ sweeps fall short for Niantic properties.
What a Niantic License Really Means for Your Brick Chimney
In Connecticut, a chimney sweep license means the company passed state inspections for safety training and equipment, but it doesn’t guarantee experience with Niantic’s common brick chimney quirks. Ask for proof of CSIA certification (the Chimney Safety Institute of America) or local masonry repair endorsements, especially if your chimney has cracked mortar or rusted liners. Eduardo Chimney Co. holds both, plus we’ve restored fireboxes in Niantic’s older homes along Route 1. Licensing details and our team’s background are here. Also verify if they’re bonded for property damage; some ‘licensed’ crews cut corners on insurance to save costs.
Insurance Red Flags for Niantic Homeowners
A ‘licensed’ sweep might list ‘insurance’ on their van, but that’s not the same as commercial general liability covering $1M+ in damage. For example, if a sweep damages your Niantic brick chimney during cleaning, or worse, leaves creosote behind and causes a fire, their policy must pay for repairs. Eduardo Chimney Co. carries full liability and worker’s comp, and we provide certificates on-site. Pro tip: Check if their policy excludes older masonry; some insurers flag brick chimneys as ‘high-risk.’ For Niantic’s historic homes, we also recommend scheduling a pre-sweep inspection to spot hidden issues like deteriorated flue tiles.
